Using Zoom
Using Zoom software
Zoom is available for use on a PC, Mac, Android and I believe Apple smart phone.
You’ll need a computer or smart phone that can run Zoom.
You’ll need a free Zoom account if you do not already have one. You can sign up here: https://zoom.us/signup You will probably be sent an email asking you to activate your account.
Email invitation to weekly classes
You’ll receive an email with a link to the zoom class(es) for each of the 10 weeks. It will look similar to:
Hugh Poulton is inviting you to a scheduled Zoom meeting.
Topic: Test Yoga class
Time: Mar 14, 2020 12:00 PM London
Join Zoom Meeting
https://zoom.us/j/267760519 (if you click on this link it will take you to the session)
Meeting ID: 267 760 519
You will be able to join the session up to 15 mins early. As each person joins you will be able to see them on video and speak to them (though everyone else will be able to hear). At this time you will also be able to chat by text either to the whole group or privately to a participant. Click the chat symbol at the bottom of your screen and then select who you would like to chat to in the to: field in the chat box to the right.
We’ll join you a little before the class start time, check in with you all and ask if there are any injuries or conditions we need to be aware of. You can private chat to us if you prefer (select ‘host’ in the to: field).
Class etiquette
Just before the class starts I’ll ask you to switch off your mic (for a PC click on the logo at the bottom RH side of your screen) but please keep your video on. If at all practicable, please place the camera where we can see your practice (don't worry if your head is not in shot for standing postures) and you can easily see the screen. For most setups you'll need the camera 3 to 4 metres away (9 to 12 feet) unless your camera lens is wide angle. Then please select the ‘Speaker view’ option on your screen to see us full screen.
You can keep your mic on if you want to ask something, otherwise as a general rule it is better to mute it doing the class (bottom LHS of screen) to stop any rustling or coughing making it difficult for others to hear. us. Please be aware, any sound will be heard by everyone, so if there is a radio or music on elsewhere it can easily disturb others.
At the end of the class
At the end of the class there will be the opportunity to switch videos back on and have 5 / 10 mins or so together. I’m sure the first couple of these will be a bit hit and miss but we’ll get the hang of it pretty quickly.
Class recording available if you miss the broadcast
Each session of teaching will be recorded and then uploaded to Vimeo for a week so if you miss a class you’ll be able to catch up. An example of a class is here: https://vimeo.com/397773061 please use the password ‘Sukhita 140320’
Sarah and I look forward to welcoming you to our new online classes.
